The transmission of medical virtues and the wisdom of our ancestors for the benefit of future generations

Chinese medicine is the accumulation of thousands of years of wisdom in China. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee, a Chinese medicine practitioner who has been practicing for more than 40 years, said that he was originally not interested in Chinese medicine at all, but he finally took up this path because of his grandfather. Dr. Lee who lived with his grandfather when he was a child, recalls that his grandfather allowed him to find his vocation through a subtle panning approach. The most impressive thing is that he wanted to ask his grandfather to prescribe medicine when he was not feeling well, but he was asked to look up the book to find the solution himself. In order to solve the problems of chest congestion and acid reflux, Dr. Lee began to read books about Chinese medicine. Gradually, from his original disinterest, he found that many of the truths in them were similar to the Taoist books he had read, such as the five elements of yin and yang or the interactive changes of the body.

For this year’s grandfather’s 120th birthday, Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee invited all of his grandfather’s and grandmother’s relatives and even his grandchildren’s relatives to his home, and finally more than 100 people came together to remember his grandfather’s legacy. Dr. Lee said that this year is 2009, so he used nine words to describe the feeling of “eternal remembrance of the family’s love in heaven and on earth”, which means that the children and grandchildren who are still on earth miss the love of their grandfather who passed away.

In the book of Lu Dongbin, the grand master of Taoism, it is said that “a hundred years of time is just like two stones hitting each other and creating a spark. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee said that twenty years ago, for his grandfather’s 100th birthday, when his third brother and his family were involved in a car accident, resulting in the collapse of his daughter’s skull, which was diagnosed as a brain fracture, after Western medicine had solved the skull and cleared the blood stasis, he asked to be brought back for follow-up treatment in Chinese medicine, which took a month and a half to wake up, and it was only after two months that he really woke up and realized he had been in a serious car accident. When he finally recovered, even his pseudomyopia had disappeared, and it was already 20 years ago. This memory is not only a life experience for Dr. Lee, but also an account of the transmission of medical ethics and Chinese medicine to his family.

Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee always hopes to find more ways to benefit the public in Chinese medicine, so that he can live a life worth living. This is the goal that Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee has been striving for since he started practicing medicine. He said that although he learned Chinese medicine, he also pays attention to modern science, and cannot witness things by pointing to deer as horses, but must have a reasonable basis for everything. The wisdom that has been taught and inspired in the past will remain in our hearts and minds, and we will pass on the experience that has been accumulated and tested.
